Community
Belonging is the beginning. Community means being known, being welcomed, and having people who notice when you show up. We are building spaces rooted in the Somali community and open to young people across underserved, immigrant, refugee, and minority communities. In practice, that means listening first, making room for different experiences, and building relationships that last beyond a single program.

Creativity
Creativity gives young people a way to make meaning, tell their own stories, and test ideas without needing every answer first. Through photography, design, film, and cultural expression, young people will learn to trust their point of view. The Social Canvas primarily serves Somali youth and young adults throughout Minnesota, while welcoming young people from underserved, immigrant, refugee, and minority communities. Programs are rooted in the experiences and needs of the Somali community while building bridges across cultures — spaces where diverse backgrounds are welcomed, respected, and celebrated.
